NO MORE
SACRIFICE FOR SIN?
“And their
sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where
remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin”
(Hebrews 10:17, 18)
One of the most
comforting truths of “the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts
20:24) is that once we come
into a saving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior,
our sins
and iniquities are gone forever! This is so to the extent that God will
no more
remember them. What is so wonderful and amazing about this is that it
includes
ALL OF THEM: Past, present and future! You see, beloved, at the moment
that you
and I believe on the Lord Jesus Christ we are saved with an everlasting
salvation (Acts 16:31; Isaiah 45:17). That simply means that on the
Cross our
precious Savior “by his own
blood…obtained eternal redemption
for us” (Hebrews 9:12). That’s why we can rejoice that we are saved
forever
and ever; and we don’t have to fear that God will ever bring them up
before us.
On the contrary, as we can see, He promises that He himself will not
remember
them. Oh, the wonder of it that we can go on to heaven without having
to look
back over our shoulder to see if any of our forgiven sins are following
us!
Hallelujah!!!
Besides, we can assuredly
know that all our sins and
iniquities will never be remember by God because they all have been
forgiven by
Him for His Son’s sake; for “where
remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin”. What
does this
mean? That “after (Christ Jesus) had
offered one sacrifice for sins for ever”
(Hebrews 10:12), there is no longer a need for someone to die and
pay for
our sins because they are gone. You see, not only did the Lord Jesus
died for
our sins, but they were buried with Him; and when He resurrected from
the dead,
they were left behind as those that are “cast…into
the depths of the sea” (Micah 7:19). ‘If those sins are wholly
blotted out,
there is no more need of sacrifice to atone for them, any more than
there is
need to pay a debt again which has been once paid… the pardon was so
complete
that all dread of wrath was taken away, and the sinner might look up to
God as
calmly and joyfully as if he had never been guilty of transgression’
(Barnes’
Commentary). Again, Hallelujah!!!
