OH, HOW HE LOVES ME!

“Thou… hast loved them, as thou hast loved me” (John 17:23)

I can rejoice that God loves me; but Oh! To know that He loves me as He loves His Son is beyond my comprehension. Yet that He does so I cannot deny it; for the Lord Jesus Himself says so in our text. “Thou… hast loved them, as thou hast loved me”. Hallelujah!!!

But what makes this glorious truth so amazingly wonderful is to consider who we are and what we are! Honestly, none of us can claim that we deserve to be loved by God! Just simply being sinners, all of us deserve to be hated by God as He so justly declares in His Word: “Thou hatest all workers of iniquity” (Psalm 5:5). Yet in Romans 5:8 we read: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”.

Oh, beloved, words fail me to express what this means to me; for its “breadth, and length, and depth, and height” is a love “which passeth knowledge” (Ephesians 3:18), yet to know it experientially because of my faith in Christ is to be assured that God loves me as He loves His only begotten Son. Although I might not be able to “describe” this love in words; nevertheless, I can believe it!

Therefore, although I might not be able to “explain”  this love because of its greatness, yet as I look by faith at the beloved Son of God, in Whom I have been made accepted (Ephesians 1:6), I may rest assured that God loves me in the same manner that He loves Jesus. This means, then, that absolutely nothing shall separate me “from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39); and this is because He loves me “with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3). For God to stop loving me He would have to stop loving His Son; and this cannot happen. Again, Hallelujah!!!
