A COMPLETE SAVIOR

“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them”

(Hebrews 7:25)

One of the tragic teachings that one finds in much that is called “Christianity” is the belief that man is able to do something from their part for their salvation. That, of course, is not only deceit but I would even say blasphemous; for not only does it contradict God’s Word but also that God is not able to completely save a sinner by Himself! It seems to me that many do not believe that our God not only is “mighty to save” (Isaiah 63:1), but He clearly states: “I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour” (43:11).

But our text tells us that 1) the Lord Jesus Christ “is able…to save”. In other words, He has ALL POWER to save the chiefest of sinners (1 Timothy 1:15). There is no deficiency whatsoever in His Person and in His Redemptive Work to do so. May I put it like this: He saved me; He can save you. The promise is to “them…that come unto God by him”. Then 2), He can save “to the uttermost”. This simply means that what He started, He will complete; or as Philippians 1:6 puts it: “That he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ”. Whatever is needed for our “everlasting salvation” (Isaiah 45:17), He will provide; and is able to do so! Of course, the reason He can do this is 3), “he ever liveth to make intercession for them”. You see, beloved, our glorious Savior is ALIVE! Yes, He died for our sins, and was buried, but glory to God; He rose from the dead on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Now, He sits at the right hand of the Father, and as our Advocate (1 John 2:1) He intercedes for every one that believes on Him for their salvation; for “who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us” (Romans 8:34). In other words, He pleads ALL that He is and ALL that He has done to save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21).

So, beloved people of God, you can rejoice with all joy in that our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, is A COMPLETE SAVIOR! From beginning to end, from the first to the last, He is the Alpha and the Omega of our Salvation. Look at Him; and you’ll see that truly our Lord “is altogether lovely” as our Savior because He has saved us “to the uttermost”. Hallelujah!!!
